BACOLOD City – Land conflict was the motive in two separate hackings involving brothers in Negros Oriental, police said.
The 79-year-old Pacifico Ramirez of Barangay Manalongon in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental was killed after younger brother Eduardo, 62, attacked him using a bolo, a police report showed.
Pacifico sustained three hacked wounds on the back of his head, police said.
Investigation revealed that the two were having an argument over the lease of a land that their family owns.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.
On the same day, the 38-year-old Diare Alpas hacked his older brother Inocencio, 45, using a machete in Barangay Molobolo, Villahermoso , Negros Oriental.
Inocencio sustained wounds on the waist and was rushed to the Guihulngan District Hospital, a police report showed.
Diare fled after the incident, which happened around 4 p.m.
Inocencio, on the other hand, was still under treatment.
