Lea Salonga became a trending topic on Twitter on Tuesday after a Facebook post venting out her frustration amid the various events that have been happening in the country made rounds online.
“Dear Pilipinas, p***** ina, ang hirap mong mahalin,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
While she did not mention what she was particularly frustrated about, the Tony-winning actress engaged in a debate with Constitutional Reforms Advocate Orion Perez who pointed out the “broken system” in the country as the main problem.
But Salonga, in a lengthy response, revealed that she has trust issues when it comes to the things that she comes across with even if such information comes from someone with “unquestionable trust.”
“Here’s my problem. I don’t possess a lot of trust in the things I see and read, even if and when the sources are supposed to be those in which we should be able to have unquestionable trust,” she wrote.
She went on to share her conspiracy theories and constant fears considering the situation in the country right now.
“Second, I house a conspiracy theorist in my head, one that I do try to quell in order to stay focused on the long game. Third, there is always a sense of fear that if anyone pisses off the wrong guy, one can get shot in broad daylight,” she stated.
While Salonga has yet to reveal what exactly her post was all about, some fans believe she was referring to the case of Maria Ressa as she made the post following the cyber libel conviction of the Rappler CEO and Executive Editor.
Ressa is facing up to six years in prison after she was found guilty on June 15 of cyber libel over a 2012 article that linked a businessman to alleged illegal activities. (Push)

Janine Gutierrez explains why speaking up matters
Actress Janine Gutierrez took to social media to emphasize how each person’s voice is important to keep democracy alive in the Philippines.
This, after she received some comments urging her to stop meddling with political issues.
Reaching out to others who get the same comments, Gutierrez said: “Pls don’t be swayed. It’s your right as a Filipino to speak up, question and be involved. I will keep repeating THAT YOUR VOICE MATTERS.”
Gutierrez further explained why she believes speaking up is important.
“Kahit ano pa ang trabaho mo o kahit naiiba ang paniniwala mo sa nakararami, una sa lahat, Pilipino ka. May karapatan ka at may responsibilidad ka. Stay informed. Speak,” she said.
And as for those who “promote this culture of silence,” she said: “You’re killing our democracy.”
Gutierrez has been one of the celebrities who have been using their platforms to campaign for what they believe in.
Last Independence Day, she and her siblings joined the rally at the University of the Philippines calling for the junking of the controversial Anti-Terrorism bill. (ABS-CBN News)
