GIRLS from Leon town took home the Under-16 title in the 2nd Provincial Developmental Sports League at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Joining the annual tournament for the first time, the Leon squad – led by team captain Marianne Grace Calapaan – defeated Dumangas in the gold medal match.
Other members of the Leon team were Jeah Pascua, Anne Lucille Ebido, Dea Jane Canaya, Frianna Jhezi Narie Villaret, Zas Yeisha Calanuga, Chazzie Aizhen Roxas, Ivy Lie Calumay, Kiara Jasmin Pascua, Mariae Jasmiene Gaboc, and Johanna Grace Canata.
Leon’s U-19 volleyball squads also fared well. The boys’ team finished second place while the girls settled for a bronze medal.
“This is a great achievement for Leon volleyball, considering it is our first time to join the tournament,” Leon Volleyball Association’s Alma Cagalitan Capilastique said of the June 10 games. “We will try to improve next year.”
Team captain Kyi Jagorin, RJ Capio, Keith Owen Canonaso, Kian Caballero, Keenan Howell Capio, and Darryl Kent Camariosa, faltered to Dumangas in the boys’ titular match.
Members of the girls’ team are Jamela Capeñanes, Krystl Lou Capilastique, Jeah M Pascua, Angelline Cabalo, Jemima Camit, Angelica Palacio, and Hannah Charize Cabrobias.
Leon’s U-13 boys’ team – Jaemer James Balcena, Sam Brendan Pagara, Renz Karlo Landong, Justine Christoff Capio, Viggo Calabio, and John Kenneth Geco – made it until the semifinals./PN
