BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental vice governor Eugenio Lacson dared former Barangay 35 village chief Manuel Huelar to name the individual who led him to accuse top-ranking officials in the province of being protectors of illegal drugs.
Yesterday, Lacson once again asserted that someone has “influenced” Huelar in making such allegation.
He said the things written in Huelar’s affidavit are “clearly not his own but was somebody else’s.”
Lacson added that Huelar’s “expert opinion is utterly false, malicious and made with impunity.”
“Huelar clearly made perjury in executing his affidavit. Being in prison already, he can make perjury statements against me and other individuals without [suffering from] any consequences,” said Lacson.
Huelar was detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology lockup facility in Barangay Handumanan for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Lacson said the drug user/protector tag that Huelar hurled against him is something to “laugh off,” but added that he is talking to his doctor about taking tests to prove he is not using illegal drugs.
He also said that the identity of the person behind Huelar’s accusations is an open secret among officials in Negros Occidental.
Lacson said the person also plans to run for the gubernatorial post as he is.
“Plainly, it’s politics,” he said.
The vice governor also questioned how Huelar knew that his mother and Judy Araneta-Roxas, mother of former Department of Interior and Local Government Unit secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas, have a close relationship.
He said “very few” knew about it.
On the allegations against his brother Manuel “Manolet,” Lacson said, “Suffice to say that they are already responsible adults and are not under his keep.”/PN
