ILOILO City – Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon wants to have a meeting with the leaders of youth gangs and make a personal appeal to them for sobriety.
The chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on police matters asked from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) a list of the gangs and the addresses of their leaders.
“I want to meet the presidents of these gangs to personally talk to them. I believe this move will somehow help solve the gang problem,” Ganzon said.
Gang-related violence has been bugging the city in recent months. The ICPO counted at least 25 gangs. Most of the members were minors.
In a letter to Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director, Ganzon also requested for one or two police escorts when he meets with the gang leaders.
The ICPO feared gang violence could erupt during the Dinagyang festivities, the highlights of which are on Jan. 21 and 22.
Ganzon, son of the late senator, congressman and mayor Rodolfo “Roding” Ganzon, is also religious pastor.
“More policemen are doing fieldwork especially at night when many Dinagyang Festival tribes are practicing. These gangs are unruly especially at night,” said Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson.
The gangs that the ICPO identified were spread out in five districts – City Proper, La Paz and Lapuz, Mandurriao, Molo.
Sangrines said the ICPO’s investigation section and Women and Children Protection Desk will be discussing this concern with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. In ICPO’s gang list were the following:

* La Paz / Lapuz – Little Brown Style, Mga Batang Sikat, Pasaway Singko, Sperm, TYGA, See Crazy Kids Touch Nice Girls, Young Crazy Kid, Street True Side, Di Ilonggos Crew Thugs Amegos, Last Kings, Oiys Republic, SPOT, Tailor Gang or Die, G-Crown, 5-Star Group, Bibug Gang
* Mandurriao – Cool Amigos, Street True Side Kids, SP5
* Molo – Roll-up gang./PN
