MANILA – Liberal Party (LP) senators warned against attempts to divert public attention from the smuggling scandal involving the son of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, Leila de Lima, and Paolo Benigno Aquino IV denied they were plotting to oust Duterte.
“The so-called LP ouster plot against the President is another patently preposterous tale being weaved against the political opposition,” they said in a statement released on Tuesday.
“Whoever crafted this ridiculous story is desperately trying to divert public and media attention from the P6.5-billion shabu smuggling controversy involving the Davao Group,” they said.
Earlier, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that Duterte’s son Paolo, the Davao City vice mayor, and son-in-law Manases Carpio were big players of the Davao Group.
The Filipinos need to know whether or not the Davao Group, the Bureau of Customs and drug syndicates connived in smuggling of billion-peso worth of illegal drugs, said the opposition group.
“Huwag nilang ilihis ang usapan,” the LP senators said. “We need to know the truth because if the allegations are true, then what we have is a phony or fake war on drugs.”/PN
