ILOILO City – The “Libre Sakay” Service Contracting Program (Phase 3) of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Western Visayas will end on July 1.
The free ride program started on April 18.
According to Atty. Jun Altura, legal counsel of LTFRB Region 6, 30 transport cooperatives are participating in the program’s Phase 3.
Under the program, public utility vehicle operators and drivers who will participate will receive a one-time payout and weekly payments based on the number of kilometer traveled per week, whether they have passengers or not.
For modernized jeepneys, the payment is P52 per kilometer while for traditional jeepneys, P27 per kilometer.
The program is meant to help the transportation sector amid the rising prices of fuel and other goods.

* MBMJ and UY Transport Services Incorporated
* Alliance of Provincial Operators and Drivers Transport Cooperative

* Leon Transport Service Cooperative

As of June 14, 6,926,285 passengers (including authorized persons outside residence and healhcare workers) in the region have been served by the program.
