ILOILO – After over two years of pandemic, the provincial federation of the Liga ng mga Barangay is set to celebrate its Liga Day 2022 this Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City.
Federation president and ex-officio Provincial Board member Dorothy Paes said the officers agreed to have this one-day affair, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for barangay officials from 1,721 barangays in the province to gather for the first time since 2019.
There was no Liga Day in 2020 and 2021. Paes said barangay officials being frontliners were busy addressing the pandemic.
The celebration on Sunday is a recognition of everyone’s efforts, said Paes. The theme is “Liga ng mga Barangay 2022: Winning Forward”.
“Nakita naton nga ang barangay officials gid ang nanikasog sa dalom during pandemic, that’s why ginbutang nga winning forward kay gusto ta nga magpadayun ang pagserbisyo kag pagpanguna sang aton barangay officials sa tanan nga hilikuton sa kabarangayan,” she explained.
This Sunday, surprises await barangay officials, including raffles and a surprise number.
Guests were also invited to the event such as Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Department of Interior and Local Government undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño, congressmen from the five congressional districts of Iloilo, Vice Gov. Christine Garin, and Department of the Interior and Local Government-Iloilo director Teodora Sumagaysay.
Iloilo province has more than 18,000 barangay officials composed of barangay captains, councilmen, treasurers, secretaries, and Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons./PN
