MANILA – Ilonggo jins bagged 13 gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals in the Smart National Interschool Taekwondo Championships at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Niesha Kariz Pequierda led Ateneo de Iloilo with two gold medals in elementary black belt team and individual categories while Cyd Edryc Esmaña also had two golds in elementary black belt team and individual, and a bronze in kyorugi.
Elizabeth Marie Borres captured gold in elementary black belt but settled for bronze in the individual division. Antonio Miguel Nafarrete had silver in cadet black belt team and bronze in the elementary black belt and individual.
Also winning two medals each were Mikee Joan Cortez (gold in kyorugi and silver in individual poomsae), Xyrus Andrei Desierto (gold in kyorugi and silver in cadet black belt team) and Samantha Gayle Go (silver in kyorugi and poomsae team).
“I am so thankful to God for this victory. I was so surprised with the results,” coach Mark Pinggol told Panay News. “Aside from winning medals, their experience in Manila will help them in future competitions.”
Other medalists from Ateneo de Iloilo were Sophia Grace Go (gold in kyorugi), Sofia Jessie Uy (silver in poomsae team), Josh Carl Macahilig (silver in kyorugi), and Shaena Maryel Lazara (bronze in koyrugi).
Assumption Iloilo had four medalists – Roycel Mar Decafe (gold in the kyorugi and silver in individual poomsae), Roivic John Decafe (silver in kyorugi), Aiken Avaricio (bronze in individual poomsae), and Elysa Magno (bronze in individual poomsae).
St. Robert’s International Academy also had three medalists – Czarylle Faye Dinero and Rannie Rose Dedoroy (gold, kyorugi), and Kyna Zurielle Gemarino (bronze, kyorugi).
Glaiza Fae Cordero, meanwhile, won two medals for Miag-ao Elementary School (gold in kyorugi and silver in individual poomsae), while Jim Marshall Simpas won bronze in kyorugi event for Central Philippine University./PN
