MANILA – Lindsay Stalzer is set to return for the fourth straight time in the 2017 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix, which opens on Oct. 21, but for a different team.
After helping Foton Tornadoes to back-to-back Grand Prix championships, Stalzer will suit up for the All-Filipino Conference titlist Petron Blaze Spikers, along with American Hillary Hurley and Japanese libero Yuri Fukuda.
In light of Stalzer’s decision, Tornadoes decided to bring in three European stars – Dragana Perunicnic of Montenegro, and Sara Klisura and libero Katarina Vukamanovic of Serbia – as imports.
For the first time, Superliga teams were allowed to recruit up to three imports each to increase the level of excitement and competitiveness among record nine competing squads, said PSL president Ramon Suzara.
“This is turning out to be the biggest and most competitive PSL Grand Prix ever,” said Suzara.
“The mere fact that almost all teams will parade three imports [each] means they are serious in winning the title,” he added. “This is going to be very exciting.”
Cignal HD Spikers cannot be outdone, with Beth Carey of Australia and American Alexis Matthews as middle blockers and Mami Miyashita of Japan as libero.
Cocolife Asset Managers will parade Taylor Milton and Tai Manu-Olevao, while Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors tapped Canadians Marisa Field and Kristen Moncks, as well as Bulgarian Slavina Koleva.
Generika Ayala Lifesavers, on the other hand, hired American Katelyn Driscoll and Croatian Katarina Pilepic, while F2 Logistics Cargo Movers turned to American Kennedy Bryan and Maria Jose Perez of Venezuela.
Expansion team Iriga Lady Oragons and collegiate side University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, meanwhile, have yet to release the names of their respective foreign players./PN
