ILOILO City – Ging’s-Living Stones International School took home the men’s division title of the Mayor JPT New Normal Sporting Event Volleyball Invitational late Thursday night at the University of San Agustin Gym here.
Behind the strong showing of Jay Rack dela Noche, Living Stones bagged the championship with a 25-9, 20-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-13 escape over Tarag Silay.
Dela Noche, who represented the country in international beach volleyball tilt last year, went on to be named as the men’s division’s Most Valuable Player apart from being named as Best Server.
Also getting recognized from Living Stones were Jian Matthew Salarzon (Best Spiker), Leo Ordiales (Best Middle Blocker) and Rhodson Du-ot (Best Setter).
Two members of Tarag Silay, meanwhile, were also given individual citation in the three-day tournament organized by Iloilo City Sports Office in Jet Nonoy (Best Opposite Spiker) and Kade Parreño (Best Libero).
As they reached the championship round, the Ralph Joren Savellano-mentored Living Stones International School prevailed over University of San Agustin-Iloilo.
The Tarag Silay of head coach Ronald Premaylon, on the other hand, survived a tough challenge from Aklan during their semifinals round encounter.
Also part of the Living Stones team were John Pearl Ledesma, Jeric Sendon, Lhester Villa, Emman Colango, Hilary Ace Praico, Sherwin Villegas, Christian Oyco, Alexander Iraya, James Luis
Japitana and Patrick John Dama.
Ging’s-Living Stones International School finished the Group A assignment as the second ranked team, while Tarag Silay ended up as the top-seed in the group.
Host University of San Agustin-Iloilo, meanwhile, salvaged a bronze medal finish in the competition after defeating Aklan in the battle-for-third place match./PN
