BACOLOD City – An appeal to reduce the proposed rates of real property taxes (RPT) was raised during a public hearing yesterday at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session hall at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Business sector representatives, subdivision owners, barangay officials, and other stakeholders attended the first public hearing for the proposed update of the schedule of market values of real properties in the city.
No one opposed the proposed ordinance but the attendees said they want to limit the new RPT rates according to the zonal valuation of the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
Councilor Dindo Ramos, the proponent of the ordinance, said he, too, noticed that the proposed rates by the City Assessor’s Officer were too high.
Ramos said the proposed rates increased to at most 300 percent compared to the present RPT values.
“It needs to be reduced,” said Ramos.
A series of public hearings will be held to hear the sentiments of the taxpayers, he added./PN
