BACOLOD City – Four residents of Barangay Old Poblacion, Escalante City, Negros Occidental are facing illegal gambling charges.
David Ejusa, 50; Maria Bernabe, 64; Teresita Sagal, 69; and Orlyn Responde, 37, were caught playing mahjong around 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 22, a police report showed.
Recovered from their possession were mahjong tiles and P248 bet money.
The four suspects were taken to the Escalante City police station where they were detained.
Presidential Decree 1602 penalizes anyone engaged in games using plastic tiles such as mahjong and several card games “wherein wagers consisting of money, articles of value or representative of value are at stake or made./PN
