KALIBO, Aklan – Out of the 24 committees in the 18th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), 22 went to members of the majority bloc.
The delegation for the committee chairpersonships was held during the SP’s inaugural session on July 8.
SP member Jose Miguel Miraflores of Ibajay, Aklan will head the Committee on Appropriations, Budget and Finance, Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, and Committee on Public Works, Housing, Land Use and Urban Relocation.
Ciriaco Feliciano, ex-officio SP member being the Liga ng mga Barangay provincial president, was assigned chairman of the Committee on Barangay Affairs.
Emmanuel Soviet Russia Dela Cruz of Kalibo, Aklan will head the Committee on Agriculture and Aquatic Resources and Committee on Education while Jay Tejada of Tangalan, Aklan will chair the Committee on Environment, Committee on Human Resource, and Committee on Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities and Indigenous People.
Nemesio Neron of Banga, Aklan was chosen as chairman of the Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Peace and Order and Committee on Energy, Public Utilities, Transportation and Communication.
Meanwhile, Juris Sucro of Kalibo, Aklan will head the Committee on Trade, Industry and Commerce and the Committee on Science and Technology.
Blessie Jizmundo, ex-officio SP member being the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation provincial president, will chair the Committee Women and Family Welfare and Committee on Youth and Sports Development.
Nelson Santamaria of Ibajay, Aklan retained the chairmanship of the Committee on Health and Social Services.
The Committee on Games and Amusements and the Committee on NGOs, POs and Cooperatives will be headed by Teddy Tupas, ex-officio member being the Provincial Councilors League president.
Ramon Gelito of Ibajay, Aklan will chair the Committee on Internal Ethics, Privileges and Discipline and the Oversight committee.
Esel Flores of Malay, Aklan also retained the chairmanship of the Committee on Laws, Rules and Ordinances and the Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Members of the majority bloc are known allies of Gov. Florencio Miraflores and Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo.
On the other hand, the minority bloc got only two committees.
Harry Sucgang of Batan, Aklan will head the Committee on Human Rights while Immanuel Sodusta of Kalibo, Aklan will chair the Committee on Labor and Employment. (With Akean Forum/PN)
