“TRIATHLON isn’t just a sport but a healthy lifestyle. That’s why I love what I do. It includes a lot of discipline, motivation and a positive mindset,” the young triathlete Jacqui Rosee Lamparero shares to Panay News.
At the tender age of 17-years old Lamparero recently got to test her mettle in the international arena, becoming youngest Filipina in the Philippine contingent sent to the prestigious 2017 Palembang ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships held from July 21 to 23 in Palembang, Indonesia.
Bannering the Philippine flag alongside a slate of veteran Filipino athletes – among them 2015 SEA Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas, professional sportswoman and health advocate Kim Kilgroe, and Philippine National Triathlon team tanker John Leerams Chicano – Lamparero proudly competed in the Junior Elite Female category with fellow young Filipinas Lauren Plaza and Nicole Eijansantos.
The small but feisty Ilongga conquered the 750 meter swim – 20 kilometer bike – 5 kilometer run course to clock in at 01:21:31.
“More than anything, I feel accomplished because my hard work in training is paying off. But that doesn’t stop there, because I still have to improve and learn,” imparts Lamparero.
The Central Philippine University student claimed her berth to the Asian championships by clinching the fastest time by a Filipina in the Women’s 16 to 19-year-old category of the 2017 Subic Bay ASTC Triathlon in April.
Just this January, Lamparero claimed a dominant lead in the Sprint Distance event of the 2017 National Age Group Triathlon – Subic Bay Freeport race to finish with a gold medal.
Lamparero comes from a stellar year of achievements, successfully defending her women’s sprint distance MangoMan Triathlon crown in May 2016, bagging first place for two straight seasons of the Guimaras Island event.
In December 2016, the young runner also placed 3rd during the 5K run of the National Milo Marathon Finals held in Iloilo at the Iloilo Business Park.
In June 2016, Lamparero shined brightest during the DELO National Age Group Triathlon held at Cagayan De Oro to bag the Leg 4 (16 to 19-year-old division) championship for the second consecutive time, accomplishing the same feat in July 2015.
“Whenever I’m awarded I feel relieved because all of my time training and hard work was paid off,” shares the Centralian high school student.
The Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) was established in 1991 to develop the future of triathlon in greater Asia. Currently 29 national federations are affiliated with ASTC in continuing to develop and support emerging the multi-disciplinary sport./PN
