BACOLOD City — A 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly firing several shots from a .45-caliber handgun toward a house in Sitio Melo, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on September 2.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Bernie,” 42, married and a resident of Sitio Tinoyokan, Barangay Marcelo.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m., according to the Calatrava Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Police said the suspect was allegedly under the influence of liquor and was carrying a firearm when he fired several shots toward the house of the complainant, alias “Jeana,” 45, married and a resident of Sitio Melo.
The shooting was reportedly carried out without apparent reason. No one was injured in the incident.
Responding personnel from the Regional Public Safety Battalion–Negros Island Region (RPSB-NIR) proceeded to the area and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.
Police recovered from his possession a .45-caliber firearm, one magazine and three rounds of live ammunition.
A subsequent search of the area also yielded six fired .45-caliber cartridge cases, which were taken into police custody as evidence.
The suspect and the recovered firearm, ammunition, magazine and cartridge cases were brought to the Calatrava MPS for documentation and further investigation.
He is facing possible charges for illegal discharge of a firearm and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
