BACOLOD City – Police were still figuring out what triggered a man to provoke trouble in Barangay Janitanon, Amlan, Negros Oriental.
The 65-year-old village watchman Pablito Ruales sustained wounds on the body after defending himself against resident John Mark “Totong” Matillano, a police report showed.
Initial investigation showed that Matillano was causing trouble in the village and destroyed the kitchen door of Ruales’ house around 9:20 p.m. on Friday.
At that time, Ruales and his grandson – whose name was not stated in the report – were outside their house.
When Matillano saw them, he chased them and hit them with a piece of wood, police said.
That was when Ruales retaliated by hacking Matillano.
Matillano sustained hack wounds on the different parts of the body and was rushed to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Police were still investigating the incident./PN
