ILOILO City – He was merely defending himself, insisted a 21-year-old laborer detained at the police station of Cabatuan, Iloilo after killing his elder brother.
According to Remwell Robles of Barangay Tupol Oeste, Cabatuan, his drunken 39-year-old brother Wilfredo tried to stab him on Friday night.
Remwell hit Wilfredo with a steel pipe and truncheon around 11:45 p.m., according to Senior Inspector Sullen Domingo, Cabatuan police chief.
If Remwell were to be believed, a knife-wielding Wilfredo, a barangay tanod, went home drunk and challenged him to a fight.
“Remwell actually ran away but Wilfredo chased him,” said Domingo.
The younger brother said he was left with no choice but defend himself when his elder brother finally cornered him.
Wilfredo sustained fatal injuries on the head and neck.
According to Domingo, Wilfredo previously served an 18-year jail sentence at the New Bilibid Prison homicide.
“He was unruly every time he got drunk,” added Domingo. “Naglayas na sina ila parents kay nahadlok sa ila maoy nga bata.”
Remwell said he did not intend to kill his brother./PN
