ILOILO City – An illegal cockfighting charge may be filed against a resident of Barangay Cawayan, New Washington, Aklan.
The 63-year-old Julito Zarandin was arrested at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday.
Officers caught him directing a cockfight in their village, a police report showed.
Zarandin was detained at the New Washington police station custodial facility.
A fighting cock and 100 bet money were seized from him.
He may be charged with violating Presidential Decree 449, or the Cockfighting Law of 1974.
The law regulates the holding of cockfights and operation of cockpits.
It provides that, among others, cockpits must be licensed and built and operated within appropriate areas as prescribed in a zoning law or ordinance./PN
