BORACAY – The drunken resident of Sitio Ayala, Barangay Yapak who attacked a policeman may have been disgruntled when his wife stopped him from further drinking.
Armed with a bolo, the 31-year-old Dennis Venus charged at Police Officer 1 Christian Kenneth Senon around 11 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2016.
But the 24-year-old Senon, an intelligence officer of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center, shot him on the right thigh, left buttock and stomach.
Before that, Venus arrived home from a drinking spree and invited his 20-year-old cousin Owen for another drinking session.
Venus’ wife Renalyn stopped him, saying he was already heavily drunk. Still, the man insisted going out to buy more drinks.
Owen noticed that his cousin took with him a bolo.
Senon was driving a motorcycle to a police assistance desk in Barangay Yapak when Venus blocked his way.
The officer claimed he stopped, alighted from the motorcycle and introduced himself as a policeman, but Venus charged at him, prompting the former to draw his gun and fire at the latter.
A tricycle driver brought Venus to the Boracay Alert Medical Clinic and Diagnostic in Barangay Balabag. He told the police he saw the victim attack Senon. He also turned over Venus’ scabbard, around 18 inches long.
Responding officers found at the scene of the incident five cartridges believed fired from Senon’s Glock firearm.
Senon is now on “restricted” duty at the Boracay police station, while Venus, who was taken to a hospital, is facing charges for direct assault, said Senior Police Officer I Christopher Mendoza, the local police-community relations officer. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
