Man shot dead in Capiz town

CAPIZ – A man was killed in a shooting incident in Sitio Bakwit, Barangay Dulangan, Pilar town early Saturday morning, April 27.

Victim Leo Cortesta, 44, and a resident of Sitio Campo, Barangay Poblacion, President Roxas town sustained one gunshot wound each to the head and neck and three to his chest.

Cortesta was rushed to the Bailan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

According to the initial investigation of Pilar police, a resident saw two motorcycles heading to Barangay Dulangan and later heard five gunshots at around 4:30 a.m.

Responding policemen recovered at the crime scene five empty shells from a .45 pistol.

Pilar police were looking at illegal drugs as the alleged motive behind the killing.

Police Major Alfred De Leon of the Pilar Municipal Police Station confirmed to a local radio report that the victim was in the police’s drugs watch list.

De Leon added that the victim was previously arrested and jailed for illegal drugs in 2015 and 2020.

As of this writing, Pilar police have yet to identify the gunmen. Investigation was ongoing./PN
