ILOILO City – Two suspected “bookies” bet collectors were arrested on Luna Street, La Paz district on Saturday night.
Mila Gonce, 62, and son Ruel, 30 – residents of Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao – were detained at the La Paz police station.
Task Force Illegal Gambling officers of the La Paz police caught them soliciting bets for the illegal numbers game around 8 p.m., a police report showed.
Several cotejos (betting stubs) and P470 worth of cash bets were seized from them.
The suspects were holders of Small Town Lottery identification cards, police said.
The Gonce mother and son were facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, as amended by Republic Act 9287, which provides for tougher penalties for illegal gambling. (With Ian Paul Cordero/PN)
