PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday, September 17, said the government is looking to expand the operations of a food processing plant, which produces snacks infused with nutrients to help provide more products for state-run feeding programs, especially for schoolchildren.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has been helping Nutridense Food Manufacturing Corporation with research and development as well as machine acquisition to help expand operations, the President said in a chance interview after touring the facility.
“Hindi lang pangkaraniwang biskwit ito, mayroon nang added iron, added nutrients. Ginagamit natin ito for the school feeding program, pati DSWD kumukuha dito and operations like these,” he said.
“This is the kind of operation that we need so that not only are we able to secure our own food supply, but we are also providing our children with proper nutrition,” he said.
He added: “This is the kind of operation that we will continue to do hindi lamang dito sa Pangasinan… around the country para marami ang ating production at marami tayong mabibigyan.”
Marcos did not specify where his administration seeks to establish similar manufacturing plants, but noted that it would replicate the farm-to-factory system in securing raw materials for the processed goods.
“Hindi lang sa isang factory, hindi lang isang laboratory kung hindi isang buong sistema ang ating binubuo para patuloy na maganda ang magiging production at sa ganoong paraan ay natutulungan natin ang ating kabataan na kumain ng masustansyang pagkain,” the President said.
“It is not only food supply but it is also good nutrition so that is what we are also trying to continue,” he said.
Meantime, Marcos also visited a school in Santa Barbara, Pangasinan to inspect the delivery of different government services such as health and medical checks and feeding programs. (ABS-CBN News)
