ILOILO – The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Iloilo Chapter will extend financial assistance to quake-stricken communities in Mindanao.
The chief executives of the province’s 42 towns agreed to send in help during Friday’s quarterly meeting in the Governor’s board room.
This was in response to Gov. Arthur “Toto” Denfensor Jr.’s call for immediate relief operations to the local government units in Davao del Sur and North Cotabato, LMP-Iloilo chapter president Mayor Mediatrix “Trexie” Fernandez of San Enrique said.
“We will extend out help, preferably cash or financial assistance tungod damo na sila goods,” said Fernandez.
She added that those who want to donate financial assistance (cash or check) should coordinate with Dr. Jerry Bionat, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
“We agreed kaina nga mag-contact lang sa office ni Dr. Jerry Bionat sang PDRRMO to coordinate with Mindanao as to kon paano maghatag sang financial assistance,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez, however, clarified that they cannot yet determine the amount of the calamity aid, but she called all local government units to extend help to communities still reeling from the impact of strong earthquake.
“Wala pa commitment ang mga mayors, depende sa ila kon pila at least they were already informed and encouraged them to help Mindanao kay ti indi ta kapakot kis-a may mga calamity man kita,” she said.
The provincial government earlier donated P3-million financial aid to the earthquake-hit areas in Mindanao.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council approved on Nov. 7, 2019 a resolution extending P2-million assistance to North Cotabato and P1 million to Davao del Sur./PN
