ILOILO City – Miag-ao and Guimbal U-18 basketball teams fended off their separate foes in the 1st Province of Iloilo Sports Developmental League at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Miag-ao continued its winning run in the U-18 division with a 64-54 win over Leganes behind John Miller Monville’s 26 points on Sunday, while Guimbal defeated Alimodian, 84-50, with Joshua Gasangarin scoring 20 markers.
In the U-13 basketball event, James Caro fired 41 points to lead Leganes to a 55-50 victory over Miag-ao, while Alimodian leaned on the 18 points of Dave Palomo to beat Guimbal, 67-56.
In other U-18 basketball events, Sara Warriors survived a 48-point explosion by Ralph Bajon to score an 85-79 victory over the Barotac Nuevo team. It was the second win in as many matches by Sara.
In volleyball, the Passi City U-18 girls team defeated Miag-ao, the Miag-ao U-13 girls team edged Passi, the Passi U-18 boys team whipped Miag-ao, while Miag-ao’s U-13 boys squad dominated Passi.
The two-week sporting event joined by 15 municipalities aims to strengthen the grassroots programs of the province and discover skills among young Ilonggo athletes.
Aside from basketball and volleyball, other sports events in the tournament are badminton, tennis, table tennis, football, and chess./PN
