KALIBO, Aklan – Gov. Florencio Miraflores cautioned parents against bringing their minor children to public places, citing the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the province.

The provincial government has tightened restrictions.

“Minors have no protection against COVID-19. They usually go out of their homes to crowded places and establishments which are super spreader areas,” said Miraflores.

Minors should stay home and avoid the risk of catching the coronavirus or infecting other people, he stressed.

Aklan reported 34 new cases in the towns of Kalibo, Banga, Numancia, Ibajay, Makato, New Washington, Madalag and Batan as of Jan. 5, data from Aklan Provincial Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit showed.

Miraflores also urged local government units (LGUs) to close children’s playground and amusement parks to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 cases.

“Nakikita natin na palaging nasa parke ang mga bata at malaki ang posibilidad na dadami ang pediatric cases ng COVID. Delikado ang sitwasyon dahil sa Omicron,” he said.

The governor said they will revisit the pandemic protocols to include the restrictions of the movements of minors in malls and other public places.

With the COVID-19 surge, the provincial hospital is also ready for pediatric hospitalizations to treat minors and to give them the best care possible related to COVID-19, Miraflores added./PN
