Missing Malay fisherman found dead

MALAY, Aklan – A fisherman was found dead on April 25, 2022, after not returning home from fishing seven days ago.

After the search and retrieval operation, the body was later positively identified as 57-year-old Jose ‘Nene’ Oczon Flores, a resident of Barangay Balusbos in mainland Malay.

“He had been gone for about seven days. We also had a hard time getting him on our watercraft,” Maritime Police Station chief Major Leopoldo Booc Jr. said.

Authorities began searching for Flores on the evening of April 18 after he was reported missing. He allegedly fell off while fishing in the municipal waters of Malay.

“The fishermen saw his corpse, drifting because the waves are strong, almost in the middle of Caluya, Antique, and Buruanga,” Booc said.

The body was in a state of decomposition and buried on April 26 at the Malay Municipal Cemetery./PN
