BACOLOD City – Vice Mayor Ella Celestina Yulo of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental and husband Felix Mathias were now out of prison.
The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office issued the Yulos their release order after it found that there was no sufficient evidence against the couple.
The order was signed on Dec. 29 but was implemented on Jan. 6.
“The insufficiency in evidence is without prejudice to the conduct of preliminary investigation,” the order stated.
The Yulos went to church after they were released from detention. They also met with their supporters.
The couple was detained after police caught them on board a Mitsubishi Strada at a checkpoint in the boundary of Moises Padilla and La Castellana towns on Dec. 19.
They were bound for Bacolod City.
Guns, grenades and sachets of shabu were seized from the Yulos, said the police.
The day following their arrest, the Yulos underwent a drug test. They tested negative.
Ella Celestina earlier claimed in interviews that police officers “manhandled” them upon arrest.
Moises Padilla police station chief Senior Inspector Allan Reloj denied this. He said his men followed standard operational procedures.
The vice mayor also said the guns and grenades recovered from them were licensed and the drugs were “planted.”/PN
