
ILOILO – Two traffic accidents yesterday claimed the lives of a four-year-old girl and a village chief and wounded two others.
In Barangay Dawis, New Lucena town, 50-year-old Mark Dayot, barangay captain of Barangay Catoogan, Pototan, crashed his sport utility vehicle (SUV) against three trucks.
The victim was homebound around 4 a.m., police said.
Dayot expired at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital for severe head injuries.
According to truck drivers Marvin Ricaberte, Lumiriano Petallar and Jerson Ricaberte, the victim’s car was speeding out of his lane so they slowed down and stopped along the road.
The front portion of the SUV as well as the trucks’ incurred damage.
Meanwhile, in Barotac Nuevo town, the girl died when a private jeepney collided against the motorcycle she and her parents were riding in Barangay Bungca around 7 a.m.
The victim, Jenelyn Bernardo of Barangay Poblacion, Anilao, died of head injuries at the Don Jose S. Monfort Medical Center.
Her mother Led Jane was treated in the same facility while his father Johnny was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center.
The jeepney driver, Rex Abaojo of Anilao, claimed his vehicle lost its brake.
He was detained at the Barotac Nuevo police station./PN
