KALIBO, Aklan – The National Housing Authority (NHA) assured its remaining qualified beneficiaries – survivors of 2013’s super typhoon “Yolanda” – here they would be prioritized in future housing sites.

The agency has so far turned over more than 120 housing units (already with electricity and water facilities) to recipient-families at a permanent resettlement site in Barangay Briones.

“Dahil limited ang housing units natin sa ngayon, ang ibang qualified beneficiaries will be the second priority in the next housing projects. With water and power facilities in place, we obligated the families to transfer to the units assigned to them at the Briones housing site,” said NHA regional spokesperson Josephine Bayoneta.

After “Yolanda” devastated Aklan in November 2013, the local government of Kalibo identified permanent and typhoon-resilient housing sites where displaced families would be relocated to safe zones.

The local government and the barangays also submitted a master list of families affected by “Yolanda” for validation by the NHA.

Recipients should be residents of Kalibo living in danger zones such as along shorelines or riverbanks, without properties within Kalibo, and willing to transfer to resettlement sites in barangays Nalook or Briones.

Ang housing units ay pinatayo sa apektado ng Typhoon ‘Yolanda’. Ito ay inilalaan sa mga qualified beneficiaries na validated ng NHA,” said Bayoneta.

Last January 2019, 400 available housing units in Barangay Briones were raffled to 1,589 recipients.

Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Marlo Villanueva said there were beneficiaries living with their parents or currently renting a home upon their validation.

“Magiging bahay bakasyunan lang ang housing units ng gobyerno kung ayaw nila mag-permanently transfer sa Briones. Dapat din na gibain nila ang kanilang sariling bahay bago lumipat sa resettlement sites,” he added./PN
