BACOLOD City – A 33-year-old mother was stabbed to death inside her home in Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, early Sunday, July 26, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the unidentified assailant.
The victim was identified by the Kabankalan City Police Station (CPS) as Ivy Ramos, a married housewife and resident of Sitio Dangalon, Barangay Hilamonan.
Police said the attack occurred at around 2:30 a.m., but the incident was reported to authorities only at about 6:30 a.m. by the victim’s husband, Leo Ramos, 36, a tricycle driver.
According to the police investigation, Leo had just returned home after working in the city proper when he heard their children crying and calling for help. Upon entering the house, he found his wife sitting on the floor, covered in blood.
With the help of neighbors, Ramos was rushed to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital aboard a barangay rescue vehicle but was declared dead on arrival after sustaining multiple stab wounds on different parts of her body.
Further investigation by the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) revealed that the couple’s seven-year-old daughter witnessed the attack.
The child told investigators that she was awakened by her mother’s cries for help and saw an unidentified individual repeatedly stabbing the victim while they were sleeping.
She said her mother tried to fight back before the assailant fled the house.
Police have yet to establish the identity and motive of the suspect.
The Kabankalan CPS said follow-up investigation is ongoing as authorities pursue all available leads to identify and arrest the assailant. /PN
