My Dear Valentine

Nothing beats classics. Just imagine the joy of getting letters this season of love, especially now that almost everything is expressed through digital platforms.

Love notes will always be precious and priceless. It’s like hearing the words of the heart through words.

This Valentine’s Day, Panay News has compiled some letters penned to express the feelings of senders for someone they love.

Letting you go wasn’t so easy but I know when I gave it to you, you will be happy and your happiness will be my happiness, too. Someday, we will meet again. We will be the best version of ourselves. We can talk about what happened, listen to each other and understand what we both feel that day. Yes, maybe someday we can see each other again. But for now, I hope you’re doing well. I wish you all the good things in life. ’till we meet again. You will always have a place here in my heart, Men.

To my “Catholic” friend:

Telling you that you are beautiful is an understatement. You are more than what I think.

I like how your body is shaped to perfection. I like how bubbly your arms are. I like the beauty pasted on your face. I like how milky the color of your skin is. I like how fat your butts are. I like how your chest forms in your shirt. I like how cute the bulk of your stomach is.

I like it when you touch me … I like it — and I hope you do.

We’re just in the same room, and a world away.

The way you stare at my eyes, it’s like there is something you wished to tell, it’s like there is something hidden deep inside your heart.

How I hope it’s me.
Your classmate,
J.C.

It’s been a year since you left. Oo, masakit pero I’m trying to heal this wound you’ve caused me. Alone. But happy. Free and fulfilled. Thank you because bisan wala ka na di, I realized kung gaano ako ka-strong as a person. Thank you for being my biggest lesson

My Dear Captain (from ECB),

How are you?

I hope you’re doing well.

I hope you’re not so stressed at work.

I know you have dreams to reach and goals to achieve but never forget to take some time for yourself to breathe and enjoy life. You exist to savor how the sun kisses your skin and feel how the ocean breeze tickles your senses.

You strive to please your superiors, your stakeholders, your co-workers, and by doing so make you feel accomplished. But would you mind having someone who would please your heart? Would you at least let someone break the barriers you placed in your life blocking the people from loving you? Would you mind if I love you? If not me, at least, love, and be happy.

My world seems perfect before you entered it. But when you came, everything started to unveil and crumple.

And as you do your part in serving our country through your service in the Army, I will also do mine through my service in the community. Growth, for you, for me, for the country.

Ngayong araw ng mga puso, ang nais ko lamang ay mabasa mo itong aking sulat ng pagmamahal. Kapag ito’y nabasa mo, then it is meant for you to see. Kaya’t sa huling pagkakataon, nais kong ipaalam sa iyo na…..

Mahal na mahal na mahal na mahal na mahal kita Kuya Langga,

Kahit na ang distansya natin ay parang langit at lupa,

Mamahalin parin kita dahil langit man ay kayang abutin

Nang isang ibon kapag kanyang gugustuhin.

I will always love and pray for you,
C

Growing up with you has been a wonderful ride. The memories of us still play like a film reel every time I close my eyes. I always love the fact that I am still that person you vibe Lany songs with or argue before you sleep. Kahit di man maging tayo, you’re still the best person I’ve met, besh. You can always find another me tomorrow.

Allen,

My love, it’s unbelievable that we’re two years already. I thought this LDR relationship ain’t real but we seem fine with this kind of set up. It’s incredible that you and I collided because of DOTA2. We both knew that we’re not good on that game haha. But thank you! Thank you for everything, even we’re 700 kilometers away from each other. Distance may not be a conflict for us to be loved. Thank you for your everyday love. In return, I’ll be faithful no matter what. Happy Valentine’s Day!

I love you so much, see you soon.

It really felt weird without you here. I mean, a day without your laugh, or your weird little snorts, even the sound of your fart. The little things about you… You. Ikaw lang naman ang “palagi” ko. Pero what can I do eh sya pa rin ang mahal mo. I hope she’s taking care of you. I wish nothing but your happiness ..

Dear Life,

Here I am today, sitting on a chair, had nothing to do (even though, I’m writing this). I didn’t know how to utilize time since there is nothing much interesting in our house, even outside. All I had been doing day by day are watching television shows, browsing my social media accounts, and reading my novels (when in fact, I had read them for how my times).

But what made me happiest was when I discovered the journals that I had written last 2017 (it was written in the English when I was in Grade 9) and the other one was in 2018 (it was written in the Filipino during my Grade 10 days). Finding them somewhere in the house initiated a short eruption in my heart. It was like seeing a treasure for how many years of expedition. Reading those pages one by one and uttering them word by word, kept me smiling. I was brought back to that particular moment, and it felt like it just happened yesterday. What made me joyful and exuberant about my journals were the people — whom I secretly admired — who were often the flesh of my diaries and made me experience the what’s and how’s of being in love.

The one in English was ascribed to only one guy. He was my first proclaimed classroom crush. He was the only one who lifted my low mood into unexplained happiness. He was the only one whom I got shy talking to and seeing with face to face (I love watching him unless I’m caught). He was the only one whom I treated differently from my other 33 classmates. He was the only one who was often mentioned in my journals (and even in other kinds of prose and verse).

My interest in him was so immense to the point that I had kept and dedicated another notebook for him. It consisted of my own-made fictional stories having the same character (him), my letters with the same receiver (him), and my essays having the same topic (him). Despite that it was all for that one guy, I didn’t even decide to hand it to him because it would just lead to a no-good point, which he might think that it’s just my way to flirt with him again or to give me attention. At this point, I am continuing writing on that notebook for a single purpose: that someday it would be another treasure that I will discover after many years of expedition.

Going back to my journals — I never wrote his real name (just a codename) due to the fear that someone might read and share it with others. Yet, in the end, they all had the idea who’s my crush was; even our teacher guessed it exactly (which I had no idea how did she knew). Knowing that I had a crush on him, he managed to talk with me as often as he could and even plays with me inside the room, which just felt ephemeral. Being with him even for a short moment felt like hours. I didn’t have any idea of how will I act if I see him, even though he was just kilometers distant from me. I didn’t have any idea of how will I reply to his messages, and of course of how will I keep the conversation going. A time came when I couldn’t tolerate the truth. He wasn’t meant for me, he was meant for a girl. Yeah, that hurt me that time. It let me realized that sometimes, love shouldn’t be sweet all the time, and it had to be bitter. Seeing him with his admired person, felt like my heart was being squeezed. I felt hatred that time, but I didn’t know whom I will hate. I felt irritated, but I didn’t know which part of my body I will stretch. I wanted to slap, but I didn’t know whose face it would be.

At last, the day eventually came for us to promptly bid farewell to each other and tell “Goodbye classmate.” It was the day where we would no longer be in the same room, wearing the same uniform; and it felt greatly exotic that tomorrow will not feel like yesterday . . . that tomorrow will bring me somewhere in life — away from him. I knew where I would be after that day since the universe had created a way to separate the both of us. I was like a cube of ice being broken down into pieces — it was heartbreaking, but I told myself that I had to let go . . . so I did.

He didn’t know how much impact he’d brought in my life. What he just knew about me having him as my crush was nothing but a piece of nonsense. He had no idea how hard it was for me to keep myself looking up positively in the word “love” that time; but, I never thought of replacing him with other guys out there. For what my heart was telling me was: he’s the only person in the whole world who let me feel how beautiful it was to be in love, which I only experience once throughout my life.

Until now, we hadn’t talked since the day we had parted; but if the universe would send us together in the same place (after a long period of not talking with each other), what I would say to him would be nothing. I had no plans of how will I begin my sentence and how will I look at him like I always did when he was still my crush. Would I still look at him with puppy eyes? Would I be in cloud nine whenever he’s just a meter away from me?

Right now, I had absorbed the truth that he was never meant for me. I had been reminding myself that he was destined for a girl, not for an effeminate man. He wasn’t my crush anymore, however, he had sculptured a mark, not just in my heart, but in my whole life that I will carry wherever I go — that he was and will forever be my first love.

His one and only,
Tudz
