MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo defended her hometown after the Philippine National Police (PNP) claimed that Naga City ranks fifth in criminality in the country.
In a social media post, Robredo said PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde might have been misinformed.
Albayalde said Naga City has been consistent being No. 5 in terms of having the highest criminality rate in the country in the first semesters of the past two years.
“Let me share the information based on PNP data that among the major cities of the country, Naga City has consistently ranked number 5 in terms of crime volume in the first semesters of 2017 and 2018,” Albayalde said.
But Robredo said this is “totally unacceptable.”
“Spare our people and our beloved city from misinformation,” she wrote on Twitter Friday night.
Robredo also went out to detail the “real rank” of her city in terms of criminality, saying that on nationwide scale Naga City ranked 34th in murder, 24th-26th in homicide, 29th in rape, 11th in robbery, and 6th in theft.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte said in a speech that he is reluctant to hand the presidency to Robredo if ever he plans to resign since the latter’s city was once a “hotbed of shabu.”/PN
