Passi grade school owner shot

ILOILO City – A grade school owner and review center lecturer was shot in the component city of Passi in Iloilo province.

Motorcycle-riding gunmen fired at Nicanor Labo on Simeon Aguilar Street, Barangay Poblacion, Passi City.

The 47-year-old resident of Barangay Aglalana, Passi City sustained gunshot wounds on the right leg, right shoulder and stomach.

He was currently confined in the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital in Molo district.

Labo owns the Madison Grade School in Passi City and works as lecturer in review and training centers in this city, police said.

As of this writing, investigators were still unsure what may have prompted the shooting on Friday.

Labo was standing in front of a drug store at 9 p.m. when two people on board a motorcycle pulled over in front of him.

The back-rider then pulled out a gun and fired at Labo four times, police said, citing witnesses.

The attackers sped away after the incident. Two people riding in tandem in another motorcycle – believed to be lookouts – tailed them as they escaped, police said.

“We have yet to determine the motive. We have not yet spoken with the victim. He was still in the hospital,” Passi City police head Superintendent Arturo Fullera said on Saturday.

Four empty shells of a .45 pistol were found at the crime scene.

Fullera said they learned from witnesses that the shooters were not concealing their faces.

Police hope to identify them through footage from the security camera of a nearby establishment, he said./PN
