Nava seeks alliance with Espinosa vs Treñas

The 7th Division of Sandiganbayan issued a resolution dated Jan. 28 denying for lack of merit the motion that Cong. Geronimo “Jerry” Treñas filed seeking to dismiss a graft case against him.

ILOILO City – Councilor Plaridel Nava is seeking an alliance with Mayor Jose Espinosa III to defeat Cong. Jerry Treñas and slate in next year’s election.

Nava belongs to the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) while Espinosa is with the Nacionalista Party (NP).

Treñas, who indicated intention to run for mayor, belongs to the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

According to Nava, putting up a third candidate for mayor would not be a wise move to defeat Treñas and lineup.

Nava said he and fellow UNA member Councilor Joshua Alim could align with Espinosa to form a stronger group, together with Dr. Marigold Gonzalez (daughter of the late congressman and secretary of justice Raul Gonzalez Sr.) and Atty. Dan Cartagena.

“I see no advantage if mabutang kami separate candidates,” said Nava, a critic of Treñas.

After all, he said, Treñas is their “common enemy.”

Nava previously claimed Treñas plotted to have him killed – a charge that the congressman vehemently denied.

Joshua could run for congressman and Gonzalez for vice mayor, said Nava.

“May fight gid ni ‘ya.  Segurado ko ang pumoluyo will consider this tandem,” he said.

Last week, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon announced Treñas was his choice for mayor in next year’s election and agreed to be the congressman’s running mate.

Nava also belittled Treñas’ reported lineup for the city council that included councilors Ely Estante, Reyland Hervias, Mandrei Malabor, Liezel Zulueta Salazar, Jay Treñas, and Magdalene Candice Tupas.

“They have not proven their worth. Inang mga konsehal wala man may gin obra para sa interes sang pumoluyo. Hipos sila tanan sa issue sang korapsyon sa syudad, droga,” said Nava.

They should not be reelected, he stressed./PN
