MANILA – A total of 17 individuals were killed in Region V and Calabarzon due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Rolly,” according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction on Management Council (NDRRMC).
NDRRMC spokesman Mark Timbal on Tuesday said no further information about the casualties were provided as they will publish the count provided by Region V once “the usual verification procedures are done.”
The situational report released by the NDRRMC on Tuesday was lower compared to the report of the Office of Civil Defense Region V on Monday saying there are 20 casualties in Bicol region.
Apart from the fatalities, OCD Region V also noted that 13 individuals were wounded due to Rolly – 11 from Albay, one in Sorsogon and another one from Camarines Norte.
According to Timbal, more than two million individuals have been affected by the strong typhoon from Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region.
A total of 50 road sections and five bridges were affected by the flooding and landslide while 165 cities and municipalities in Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, and Regions V and VIII are still experiencing power outage.
A total of 83 cities and municipalities in Region V are still experiencing water interruption while network interruption is also a problem for some 68 cities and municipalities in Regions V, Calabarzon and MIMAROPA.
On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte visited some areas hit by Typhoon “Rolly” in Catanduanes and Albay. He also ordered an investigation into quarrying activities in Albay following the extent of damage in the province brought by the typhoon./PN
