ILOILO — Aggressive holiday road inspections by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 placed Western Visayas at the top of the national enforcement leaderboard after 13,659 vehicles were checked during the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos! “PASKO 2025” campaign, uncovering nearly 200 safety violations at the height of the Christmas – New Year travel rush.
The region-wide operation, conducted from December 20, 2025 to January 4, 2026, focused on preventing road accidents and breakdowns as traffic volume surged, particularly along major transport corridors.
LTO-6 regional director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II credited the outcome to intensified field enforcement led by the Regional Law Enforcement Service under Deputy Chief Relin Reyes, with support from deputized personnel and partner law enforcers.
“The numbers reflect our dedication to public service, demonstrating our principle that as public servants, we must deliver service that transcends expectations,” Geduspan said.
Inspection data showed that 194 vehicles were issued Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOPs) for various violations, highlighting persistent compliance gaps despite heightened public awareness during peak travel periods.
Authorities said public utility vehicles (PUVs) were placed under stricter scrutiny to ensure roadworthiness and passenger safety, especially on heavily trafficked routes where even minor defects could trigger serious incidents.
The campaign was implemented under a nationwide directive from LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, blending strict enforcement with commuter assistance.
In addition to roadside inspections, Public Assistance Desks were set up across Western Visayas to provide real-time help to motorists and commuters, reinforcing what officials described as a “firm-hand, heart-of-service” approach.
The results propelled LTO-6 to top-performing regional office nationwide, setting a benchmark for road safety enforcement and customer service during high-risk travel seasons.
