BACOLOD City – The provincial government hired additional doctor-consultants to boost services in capitol-run hospitals across Negros Occidental.
The Provincial Board approved last week contracts for 18 more medical consultants who will work for the provincial government until Dec. 31 this year.
Board member Salvador Escalante Jr. (2nd District) said each consultant is required to render 48 hours of service a week.
Some of the consultants may still continue their private practice as doctors, Escalante added.
Consultancy fee ranges from P20,000 to P50,000 monthly, according to Escalante.
Two consultants are assigned at the Negros First Provincial Blood Center, one each at the Cadiz District Hospital and the Ignacio L. Arroyo Memorial District Hospital as pathologist, one at the Valladolid District Hospital as a surgical consultant, one at the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital as a mini-laparatomy consultant, one each at the Merceditas J. Montilla District Hospital and Ignacio L. Arroyo Memorial District Hospital as radiologist, and two at the Calatrava District Hospital as radiologist and pathologist.
The others were assigned as reliever doctors at the Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital, Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, Cadiz District Hospital, Calatrava District Hospital, andMerceditas J. Montilla District Hospital.
Last month, 18 consultants were also hired for various district hospitals in the province.
They include six consultants assigned at theTeresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital and three consultants for radiology, pathology and anesthesiology at the Don Salvador Memorial District Hospital.
Two consultants for radiology and pathology were also assigned at the Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital and at theMerceditas J. Montilla District Hospital, respectively.
Moreover, seven were assigned as reliever doctors at theCalatrava District Hospital, Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital, Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, and Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital.
The provincial government has hired a total of 52 consultants this year, including those in other sectors. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency/PN)
