BACOLOD City – The number of new voters in Negros Occidental and its capital Bacolod City exceeded 56,000 by the end of the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) voters’ registration period on Jan. 31.
Provincial elections supervisor, Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, said the province in total had 28,166 male voters and 28,557 female voters.
Bacolod City’s new voter-registrants reached 13,792.
A total 13,789 individuals aged 15 to 17, meanwhile, registered for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
The Comelec central office said preparations for the upcoming polls will be completed in May.
The preparations started last year. Ehe election was originally scheduled in December before it was postponed to 2023, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said.
In October last year, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed into law the measure postponing the Dec. 5, 2022 barangay and SK elections to Oct. 30, 2023./PN
