BACOLOD City – Over 2,000 individuals registered in Negros Occidental and its capital city on the first day of voter registration on Monday, Feb. 12, according to data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental.

Voter registration for the 2025 midterm elections is set to continue until Sept. 30, 2024.

Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, the Comelec-Negros Occidental elections supervisor, reported that Bacolod City saw the highest number of registrants on the first day, totaling 302, followed by Victorias City with 179 and Himamaylan City with 145.

Election officers did not encounter any issues during the initial day of registration, he added.

Furthermore, Comelec-Bacolod City will conduct satellite registration in Barangay Pahanocoy on Feb. 17, and a registration fair is scheduled at SM City Bacolod on Feb. 23.

Ananoria revealed that Negros Occidental and its capital city have started implementing the Register Anywhere Program (RAP). He noted, however, that no one has yet taken advantage of the RAP.

The RAP, available until Aug. 31, is designed to offer convenience to applicants, allowing them to register in Bacolod City regardless of their place of residence and eliminating the need to return to their permanent address.

Comelec-Negros Occidental has issued a reminder for applicants to bring government-issued identification cards, such as the Social Security System or Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID, or barangay clearance with the registrant’s photo, signature, and permanent address.

The use of a company ID as a valid identification document is no longer accepted./PN
