BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his support to the vision of the National Youth Commission (NYC) for the Filipino youth. On Monday, the province hosted the celebration of the International Youth Day 2019.
“Let me take this opportunity to declare that Negros Occidental supports the vision of the NYC for the Filipino youth, which is a picture of enabled, involved and patriotic youth who are realizing their aspirations,” Lacson said.
The gathering, themed “Transforming Education,” was attended by more than 200 leaders of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and other youth organizations in the province.
“Education has come a long way from being an equalizer to development multiplier. It plays a key role in accelerating progress and there is no denying the fact that the more educated our youth become, the more secure the future will be,” Lacson said.
The governor also pointed out that there could be a challenge in examining the extent, to which transformation and learning matters related to sustainable development may be integrated.
“We are happy, therefore, to celebrate the International Youth Day 2019 because it highlights good practices and lessons learned in the efforts undertaken to ensure that education is relevant, reliable and inclusive for all youth,” he added.
Youth Commissioner At-Large Paul Anthony Pangilinan said the NYC, as the force and advocate of the youth, believes that the Filipino youth has great potential to help in the country’s development.
“All government sectors, non-government organizations, youth, and youth-serving organizations work together to give the youth access to quality education,” Pangilinan said.
SK provincial federation president Pocholo Yuvienco, meanhwhile, emphasized education as the key to a brighter future.
“For us to educate, we should encourage our youth to participate in our programs and projects. I know it is not easy to get the attention of our youth nowadays, but this is our challenge and it is our duty as youth leaders of our nation,” he said.
Yuvienco added that the SK continues to encourage youth participation and remains committed to its goals.
“We should work together for a better future for the youth, for a better SK, for a better province and most importantly, for a better nation,” he said./PN
