BACOLOD City – Sixty-six percent of the 3,790 individuals diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Negros Occidental survived the infectious disease.
The total number of recoveries stood at 2,496 as of Oct. 13, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
According to the World Health Organization, most people (about 80 percent) recover from COVID-19 without needing special treatment.
But older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness.
As to the total active cases in the province, these now stand at 1,213.
Males comprise the majority of the COVID- 19 patients or 1,950 cases while female cases are at 1,840.
On the other hand, the province’s death toll is now at 86.
The city of Talisay leads all local government units in Negros Occidental with the most number of total and active coronavirus cases.
As of Oct. 13, Talisay had 566 cases – 185 of which were active.
The city also ranked the highest in local COVID- 19 local transmission with 93 percent (179) of the total cases.
However, as of Oct. 14, 2020, the city had not reported any new cases –a first since Aug. 29 based on a separate report of the Talisay City Public Information Office and the City Health Office.
The provincial government also reported that of the 1,134 rooms in its given quarantine facilities, 337 were occupied and 797 were available for occupancy.
In Bacolod City, there were 41 new cases reported on Oct. 14, bringing to 4,481 the total number of cases.
A report from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that as of Tuesday there were five new recoveries or a total of 3,747 recovered cases.
Recovery rate in Bacolod City is pegged at 83.62 percent of the confirmed cases.
