BACOLOD City – A total of 1,141 incoming grantees for school year 2023-2024 of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the provincial government.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson signed on behalf of the provincial government.
The MOA signing was witnessed by Provincial Board member Rita Gatuslao, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education chair; Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz; and Scholarship Program Division head Karen Dinsay, on Tuesday.
The new scholars were from different cities and municipalities. They were granted scholarships in various categories such as District Educational Scholarship, Pagkaon Scholarship, Pagkaon Scholarship – Food Technology, Pagkaon – Degree Completion Scholarship, Indigenous Peoples’ Scholarship (IP), Degree Completion Scholarship, Negros Occidental Provincial Medical and Nursing Scholarship – Medicine, Negros Occidental Provincial Medical and Nursing Scholarship – Nursing, Provincial Educational Assistance to Capitol Employees – Post Graduate Studies, Provincial Educational Assistance to Capitol Employees – Bachelor’s Degree, Persons With Disabilities Scholarship, and Overseas Filipino Worker Scholarship.
Scholars will enjoy free tuition and miscellaneous fees (for those enrolled in private schools), as well as book and uniform allowances.
According to Lacson, the MOA signing was a big step towards making education accessible, especially to the less privileged but deserving Negrenses.
“As you venture into this new chapter, always remember that you are also paving the way on behalf of other young Negrenses who will follow your footsteps; be responsible students and take full advantage of this chance to learn and grow,” Lacson told the scholars.
A total of 358 provincial scholars graduated this year, 43 of whom were Latin honorees. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
