MANILA – Negrense players composing the Philippine team moved on to the finals of the Senior League Softball World Series after a 9-0 win over Southwest in the semifinals at the Lower Sussex Little League Park in Delaware on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
Represented by the Domingo Lacson National High School in Bacolod City, the Filipino squad will face DE District III, which stunned Canada (1-0) in the other semis match, in the finale on Sunday (Monday in Manila).
Kaith Ezra Jaladoni didn’t allow a single run while only conceding one hit and induced a groundout from Southwest’s Chaney Hill to clinch the win for the Philippines, which represents the Asia-Pacific.
The Philippine team scored three runs in the sixth inning on a groundout and a single by Jaladoni. She also clinched the win for the Asia Pacific with seven innings and 11 strike outs.
Mary Joy Maguad also had her contributions for the Philippine team with three runs batted in. The lone bright spot for Southeast was a single by Haylee Dye in the first inning.
Other members of the Philippine team were Neo May Mahinay, Angela Solidarios, Chastene Jover Joesiemers Maguad, Glecilyn Alipato, April Gonzales, Ma. Victoria Magbanua, Glory Alonzo, April Minanga, and Mea Tunogbanua.
The Philippines earned the right to represent the Asia-Pacific in the tournament after topping the seniors division of the 2017 Asia-Pacific Softball Regional Tournament last June at the Singapore American School in Woodlands, Singapore./PN
