ILOCOS Sur – De La Salle University Lady Spikers is not yet done with its preparations for the departure of its veteran players after securing the commitment of Central Visayas’ hitter Baby Jane Soreno.

Soreno of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental said she chose Lady Spikers over other Manila-based schools since it was her dream to play under head coach Ramil de Jesus.

“It has been my dream to become an athlete of La Salle,” Soreno said. “I am already certain that I will play for La Salle. In fact, I will move to Manila when I reach Grade 12 so I will be close to La Salle.”

The 5-foot-9 Soreno, who played for the Negros Island Region team in Palarong Pambansa last year, is currently playing for Central Visayas in secondary girls volleyball here.

“Actually I have already trained with F2 (Logistics Cargo Movers) before and coach Ramil approached me and asked me if I want to play for him. Of course, I said yes,” she added.

But Soreno refused to dwell with the pressure, with many saying she can take over the spot of Kim Dy, who is graduating at the end of UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball.

“I do not want to be pressured but I am ready to take over (Dy’s position) if coach Ramil tells me to do so,” Soreno said. “I do not want to be pressured because I am doing this for my family.”

“If ever coach Ramil puts me in a different position, I am willing to work for it. I just need to work on my footwork and receive,” added Soreno, who will join fellow Negrense Marite Espina in the Lady Spikers camp./PN
