Negros tankers break records in Milo Little Olympics Visayas

MANILA – Swimmers from Negros Occidental shattered numerous records during the 31st Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals on Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center pool.

Bacolodnon Reagan Joseph Garbanzos captured nine gold medals, including four new records, while Negrense Alexi Kouzenye Cabayaran captured four record-breaking feats.

Cabayaran, a standout of St. Scholastica’s Academy in Bacolod City, tallied record breaking feats in 400m freestyle (5:06.45), 100m butterfly (1:10.51), 200m freestyle (1:15.46), and 100m freestyle (1:04:48).

Cabayaran captured other gold medals in the 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, and 50m butterfly.

Garbanzos of Mambulac Elementary School in Negros Occidental set new records in elementary boys’ freestyle 100m (56.65 seconds), 400m (4:27.48), 200m (2:18.19) and 800m (9:21.66).

Meanwhile, back-to-back titlist Bacolod Tay Tung High School lost to Ateneo de Cebu 67-75 in the finals of secondary boys basketball.

Tay Tung was up by as much as 40-26 and still ahead 59-53 in the fourth period when it surrendered the lead to Ateneo de Cebu on back-to-back 3s by Tristan Fuentes and Justin Magsalang.

Magsalang finished the match with 24 points, including seven triples, to lead the way for Ateneo de Cebu. Fritz Valencia led Tay Tung with 18 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Tay Tung’s elementary basketball team also suffered a come-from-behind defeat to St. John’s Institute – Bacolod 41-49 in the finals./PN
