BACOLOD City – The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) confirmed the postponement of its scheduled two-day transport strike today and tomorrow.

UNDOC secretary-general Diego Malacad received a message from the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper and Opereytor Nationawide (Piston) advising them to temporarily hold the scheduled strike.

According to Malacad, Sen. Grace Poe encouraged Piston to cancel the strike and attend the Senate hearing about the controversial jeepney modernization program instead.

Piston head George San Mateo said the transport groups’ grievances over the jeepney phaseout will be heard in the Senate hearing.

Malacad said Poe’s recognition of their demands is considered an “initial victory” for the public transport group.

He added that UNDOC will instead hold a transport caravan to be participated by more than a hundred public utility jeepneys and minibuses in the city at 10 a.m. today./PN
