ILOILO City – Good news to all car owners and motorists.
New vehicle license plates, plastic driver’s license cards and stickers will be available by the second quarter of 2017, according to Land Transportation Office (LTO) regional director Dennis Singzon.
The Commission on Audit issued a notice of disallowance to LTO’s contracts with suppliers, resulting to a shortage of car plates.
The car plate backlog in Region 6 is over 40,000 due to pending legal issues, said Singzon.
Nationwide, the backlog has reached 13 million, he revealed.
“We’ve been receiving a lot of complaints pero hindi naman kasalanan ng nga tauhan natin sa field. This is a top management issue in the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTO central office,” said Singzon.
There two kinds of plates – one for new motor vehicles and another for existing vehicles or replacement plates.
There’s an average of 40 to 50 new vehicles registered in the region daily, and almost a thousand motorcycles.
“DOTr and the LTO central office are really working na maibigay ang mga plaka and also the driver’s licenses,” said Singzon.
LTO also sees the stabilization of the supply of stickers by the second quarter of next year./PN
