ILOILO City – Starting today, new rates will be charged to patrons using facilities at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
The use of the oval track – which used to be free – will have a P20 charge, according to Dr. Janelyn T. Fundal, newly appointed chief of the Iloilo Sports Development and Management Office (ISDMO).
The entrance fee remains at P10 per person, Fundal clarified.
For the use of the swimming pool, private persons must now pay P60 each during the day and P70 at night, Fundal said. Add the entrance fee, and they will have to shell out a total of P70 and P80, respectively.
Government-sponsored users or physical education class students shall pay P30 each during the day and P45 at night, plus their entrance fee.
Athletes training under the Department of Education and local and national sports agencies may use the facilities for free provided they have ISDMO-issued identification cards, which they may get upon submission of their names, Fundal said.
A notice posted on a bulletin board at the Sports Complex showed the facility will accommodate clients only until 7 p.m.
Fundal said these rates were contained in Provincial Ordinance No. 2017-145, or the 2017 Revised Revenue Code of Iloilo.
“Kabarato sinâ (That’s affordable),” Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said in reaction to comments that using the Sports Complex has become expensive.
Defensor clarified that collection from the charges will be used for the “costly” maintenance of the sports facilities.
“Kabalo kamo nga tama ka dako sang ginatabunan ta. … But for the sake of sports, gina-agwanta kag gina-sustinir ta inâ,” he said.
Meanwhile, Defensor said the Sports Complex has become much better managed and maintained when Fundal was appointed ISDMO head. “The maintenance has vastly improved,” the governor said./PN
