KALIBO, Aklan – A 45-year-old new lawyer vowed to continue working at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the nearby Capiz province.
Before he took the Bar exam last year and passed, Richard Fabila applied at the Environment department’s field office and landed a legal aid position.
Fabila, a resident of Santo Niño Village in Dumalag, Capiz, patrolled the forests in the Capiz hinterlands — he said it was part of his job — while self-reviewing. He never entered a review center.
According to the new lawyer, he once worked as a waiter at the RML restaurant in Capiz for three years. He then moved to Manila to work as a waiter in an American restaurant for another three years.
“While in Manila, I suffered injustice at the workplace,” said Attorney Fabila. “I also saw my father suffering as a sugarcane worker.”
These prompted him to take up law at the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion in Roxas City.
While in law school, Fabila said he drove a scooter to ferry passengers to support his needs./PN
